The over-the-top ridiculousness was part of what made Beyond Skyline endearing, even as the storyline remained grim and violent. There aren’t nearly as many of those in Skylin3s as there were in Beyond Skyline, although Indonesian martial arts star Yayan Ruhian makes a brief return as his Beyond Skyline character, delivering possibly the most ridiculous action scenes in the entire series.

RELATED: Michael Bay's Songbird Is a Hyped-Up Exploitation Movie At this point in the series, virtually nothing is clear, and O’Donnell spends much of Skylin3s working hard to make the narrative more tangled and confusing, when all his audience wants is some more cool fight scenes. As dumb as the original Skyline was, at least the plot was clear. The movie is both buried in plot details and sloppily paced, so that important plot points are frequently elided, and it’s often difficult to tell what the characters’ immediate goal is in any given moment.

Mal (Rhona Mitra) is working on a serum to cure the virus, thus potentially rendering the entire main storyline irrelevant. Meanwhile, in an underdeveloped subplot back on Earth, Dr. Rose reluctantly agrees to go along to provide support from her alien powers, whatever those actually are. A mysterious virus is raging through the hybrid population, threatening to revert them back to mindless killing machines, and only some alien doohickey can reverse the course. Instead, Rose is recruited by General Radford (Alexander Siddig) for a new space mission, this time to the aliens’ home planet, known as Cobalt-1.

Rose and Grant both live in what looks like a refugee camp outside London, where hybrids, as they’re called, co-exist with regular humans, in a society like something out of District 9 or Alien Nation, although its full implications are never really explored. RELATED: FX's Alien Sounds Like the Amazing Third Movie Fans Never Got Thanks to Rose’s poorly defined alien powers, all of those pilots were freed from alien control, and there are now three billion alien bodies with human brains living on Earth, just going about their business. As depicted in Beyond Skyline, though, the aliens were harvesting human brains, which they placed inside artificial bodies that they used as pilots and soldiers. Skylin3s takes place 15 years after the alien invasion, and Earth now looks vaguely post-apocalyptic, although the aliens are no longer a threat. if you don't like the genre then don't bother and why rate it if you don't anyhow.Grant also glosses over the events set up by that epilogue, which seemed to promise an epic battle between aliens and humans, but is largely dismissed within a minute or two of narration. Definitely give this film a shot if you like the genre. So I'm intentionally rating this a smidge higher than I normally would because of what I perceive to be unwarranted disapproval. I genuinely liked this movie a lot, not Shakespeare but a good, original alien action flick that was totally enjoyable to watch. they used the tropes to push the story forward and then abandoned them like the cheap " : 's" that they are. Yeah there was some basic tropes in it but never once did the film dwell in any of them. Not to mention what Jean Claud Van Dam made a child actress say about the size of his wang for one of his films. The kid was for the most part, silent which was refreshing to say the least because we all know how Hollywood likes using children as sock puppets to preach to the adults in a film to promote whatever schlock their peddling, usually ultra liberal caa caa. Not once did we have to sit through the, mommy, mommy, mommy repeated at us like Hollywood usually does. The child aspect was not trite, sacrine nor overly cliched like every dang show in media lately. Great catch phrases like, everything burns, effing Americans and finally effing Aliens were well delivered and not overdone. I absolutely adored the Martial arts fighting brother and sister that we meet halfway through. It wasn't predictable at all, creature features were original and their methods somewhat graphic to good effect. It had a smidge of corn ball but nothing compared to the terminator movies. Finally I get to give a positive review about something! I don't understand why this movie has such lacklustre reviews.
